"You Can't Be Taking Pictures"

The new issue of NYFA Current contains an article by Carly Berwick that is required reading for anyone (tourist or local, snapshots or gallery-quality work) who wanders the streets of New York with a camera.

Photoblogger Mike Epstein of Satan's Laundromat is quoted in the piece talking about a run-in he had with one of New York's finest for doing nothing more than pointing and shooting:
He said, "I don't care what the law says, you can't be taking pictures of train stations in this day and age. If you take any more pictures we'll haul you down and ask who you are."
Epstein's response? He returned the next day to get the shots he wanted. Epstein hasn't been quite so fortunate in all his recent interactions with the NYPD.
